Bendix Coffee started in 2013 in a former Bendix Corp building on the west side of South Bend in the garage of the Bendix/Bosch engineering building. The owner of Bendix Coffee, Karen Haun, worked in the same building for BOSCH for over 20 years as an IT/SAP programmer. BOSCH left the area & Karen’s job went to Chicago.  While on a bicycle ride in Arizona, she came across  a coffee roaster in Bisbee, Arizona & the idea was born to start a coffee roasting  business in South Bend. The roaster is a Diedrich roast, made in Sandpoint Idaho.  Bendix Coffee went to Sandpoint, Idaho for training on the new blue roaster. There is a coffee bean importer here in South Bend, Theta Ridge, which makes it easy to pick up 150 pond bags of green coffee beans. Well not too easy, they weight 150 pounds! Bendix Coffee also went to Colombia on an origin trip with Theta Ridge. Karen still has a passion for cycling and delivers coffee on her bike when possible and she volunteers at the local South Bend Bike Garage 909 Portage.
